Lazy Days

Over the last month we have all been enjoying some lazy days at home adjusting to life as a family of four. I am really enjoying the lounging, playing outside and tackling some of those creative projects mounting on my to-do list.

I am a BIG BROTHER! Almost 2 weeks ago I met my little sister, Addie, for the first time.
I think she is MY baby but Mama says I have to share. She sleeps alot, even through my loud antics and close-talking. Daddy stayed home and we played the first week and this week I have had lots of special time with Grandma during her visit but starting next week it will be just Me, Mama and Baby Sister!

Top 5 things I learned about babies this week:

1. You cannot poke them in the eye.
2. No putting your fingers or anything else in their mouth.
3. Only adults can carry a baby.
4. Never, never shake a baby.
5. and when their cord falls off they get a belly button.

Mama and I spent our day together this week lunching and then ventured over to the bookstore to put the gift card I got for my birthday to good use. For a long time now the favorites in my collection have been mostly the Curious George series and anything by author Richard Scarry.

We headed over to explore the section of paperback beginner books today and I pulled out Little Bear by Else Minarik and Stuart Sets Sail by Susan Hill. Stuart, Little Bear and I were instantly friends and so it didnt take long for Mama to realize that these classic series would have to be added to the favorites pile for our nightly rotation.

been to the Krispy Kreme donut shop and neither had Mama so after I requested donuts for my mid-morning snack we both took off for a warm sweet treat! While delightfully enjoying our donuts Mama suggested that we should do something else I had never done.
For this particular adventure I asked to go see a movie just like "George" in one of my favorite books. We headed downtown after a quick appt. for Mama and decided to catch the IMAX 3-D "Under the Sea" movie. Ocean creatures are one of my favorite things and so I sat stunned BUT did jump out of my seat and hide my eyes a couple times at the up-close 3-D action. After 45min. of stillness I was full of energy and a bit hungry so we called Dad and met up at Zilker Park for a picnic lunch and just a bit of playtime. After a full day we headed home and I plopped down as we hit the door for my afternoon siesta.

Egg-cellent Easter

We had a nice relaxed Easter this year that involved lots of Egg-cellent fun! After breakfast I colored some eggs, helped Mom make muffins and then went out to play in the mud and puddles leftover from the rain with Dad. After lots of playtime, lunch and a loooong nap I awoke ready to hunt for the eggs that Mom and Dad had hidden.
Finally, a bit later I took all the shells off my eggs and crushed them up to make an Easter art masterpiece. It couldn't have been a better Easter!

Backyard Retreat

We usually spend so much time touring the parks that I havent spent much time exploring my own backyard. This year in anticipation of being a bit more homebound with the arrival of my lil' sis the parental units have been making the backyard a great place for me to retreat.

The retreat includes a sandbox that Dad built (with help from PaPa), a climbing dome and will be finished up this week with a large outdoor chalkboard that needs to be mounted on the fence. I am also responsible for the Spring garden and will be tending to the veggies and watering our fruit trees. The peach tree already has some pretty flowers and so I am anxiously awaiting juicy ripe peaches.

The weather and my health thwarted our plans for a cookout with family but it didn't stop us from celebrating my birthday! Today I am "3" and so we celebrated with a blueberry pancake breakfast and I got an awesome red rocket "big boy" bike from Mom and Dad.

Mom and I headed out this morning to spend the day together. First stop was the Zach Scott Theatre Children's Production of "Home Sweet Home"! This was my first time seeing a show and I really enjoyed the puppets and silly songs.

After the show we decided to hit up the nearby P.Terry's Burger Stand and let me say if you haven't hit this Austin original you need to check it out! We enjoyed burgers, fries, shakes and the good company of friends. Mom asked my shake preference and of course I picked my favorite "flavor"....pink! They have outdoor seating and a little sandpit that I had to make a stop at before heading out.

After a leisurely walk we hopped back into the car and headed home. I promptly fell asleep and enjoyed a lengthy nap at home. Now that is what I call a day well spent!!

Holiday Hoopla

So the Holiday Hoopla officially began this past week and we kicked off the season by visiting the Schlitterbahn Hill Country Christmas on Saturday with Nunna, PapPap and some of Daddy's cousins. The place was lit up all over with faux snow, a live reindeer and roasted corn. Nunna thought that no holiday outing would be complete without a glowing light sabor for the children and so I especially enjoyed attacking innocent spectators.

Sunday morning we made a visit to see Kris Kringle and although not scared like last year I was a bit stunned to be in the big guy's presence. Mama Melanie took some pics and once we get a copy I am sure Mom will be posting or sending to all. Oh and I asked Santa for a lobster for Xmas and he said if I had been good maybe I would find one Xmas morning. That made me happy as a clam but Mama seemed less than happy for some odd reason.

Today we woke up and did a little holiday baking. I sampled it all but nothing was better than licking the bowl after we made gingerbread cake. We grabbed that gingerbread cake, a barrel of hot cider and bundled up to have our own private snow day with friends. I think Mama spent so much time trying to keep up with me and keep from slipping on the ice and snow that the only pic she caught was of me wet post playtime. Hopefully some other mamas caught pics of us sliding on the ice, throwing snowballs, making snowmen and trudging through the icy powder pile.

Looking forward to more Holiday Hoopla this week as we visit the Trail of Lights and then our first Xmas celebration will be with the Hutlocks next weekend so I can practice for the real thing!

So we headed to the Elgin Xmas Tree Farm for our annual sacrificial tree tradition! Since 2006 we have made the trip to Elgin to choose n cut our own tree and then on to the Southside Market or Meyer's to fill our bellies full of BBQ. Seems there is always a bit of a mist and this weekend was no different with a shower or two drizzling above BUT I got to hold a bow-saw and run around like a wildebeast so rain or shine it is always a good time.

Friday Night Lights

Last Friday we headed over to our local high school football stadium to see Domi in the marching band. I had heard the band earlier in the year when Mama rolled down the window and had been dying to see Domi and the rest of the band ever since. We packed up some kettle corn, warm apple cider, a blanket and enjoyed the chilly TX evening. Friends and Football, what else could a guy want?

Camping- Jim Hogg Park

We decided last week to have an overnighter this weekend at the campsites out near Lago so that Nunna and PapPap could come down and join us for a bit. We found out on Saturday morning that for the first season ever they had closed the camgrounds until next spring.
All geared up for Marshmallows and sleeping in the Tent we decided to head for G-town and find a campsite on the lake. Nunna and PapPap were already looking forward to hangin' with us and so they packed up their gear and joined us a few hours later. Due to the burn ban ground fires were prohibited so we improvised and made a nice little campfire in the grill provided at our site. There is a nice trail system that connects all three parks in G-town that is nice for hiking and mountain biking. We didnt veer too far off the trails because we were warned that it was deer hunting season and that hunters were on the nearby private property. It was a chilly evening but we layered up and kept warm in our tent.

Trick or Treat

I was SO excited to go trick or treating that I put on my Monkey suit the second we got home!
We went to run one quick errand and by the time we returned it was dark enough to make the rounds. I really liked getting a close look at all the Halloween decor and tried to roll one of the giant globes or pumpkins a few times before the parentals made me stop. I didnt hesitate in either greeting neighbors with a trick or treat and the occasional more casual, Do you have candy? I raced and darted skipping down the driveway with a Thanks and Happy Halloween to all before moving on to the next house.

Once we got home Dad raided my bag for all things chocolate and then I traded Mama a few things for a surprise bag with some fun treats. I grabbed our bowl and sat by the door waiting for trick-or-treaters but I guess being the last house at the dead end with the prior 4 not passing out candy left us out of the action as I only got to answer the door twice to hand out the glow in the dark stuff and lollipops that we picked out for Halloween. Oh well, guess that means more for me!

It's official...

Well I am not entirely sure what the big deal is but everyone seems to be super excited that I am officially out of the pull-up diapers and wearing my big boy undies. A little over a week ago I told Mama I didnt want to wear those itchy pull-ups to bed and so she let me wear my undies and here we are a week later after having had outings, playdates and three school days with minimal accidents I can safely say I have hit Potty Pro status.

Pumpkins and Painting

Fall has finally arrived and so Mama and I have been having a little Fall fun! I did a little pumpkin painting at home after making a trip to a local nursery pumpkin patch. Then I attended an art playdate with friends where it was "All About Orange"! We wore orange clothes, experimented to find out that yellow and red make orange, used other orange art mediums and then my favorite part of course was eating orange snacks. Mama and I were in charge of snacks and I helped by using the pasta cutter to make orange cantaloupe circles. This weekend we may even squeeze in a trip to a nearby farm for some more Pumpkin fun and then of course we will be carving them up for Halloween which I am eagerly anticipating.

Before and After

About a month ago I decided I didnt want to sleep in my room anymore! Couch...yes! Guest bed...yes! Mom and Dad bed...Yes! My Room...NO way!

So weekend before last Mom and Dad started talking up getting a new big boy bed and then we all hopped into the car to venture to IKEA for Step 1.
I selected this simple little white number you see in the second picture. We realized it wasn't fitting into the SUV and so we headed to get PaPa's pickup and then ventured back to IKEA!

Step 2 involved picking up a mattress and at the second stop Mom ad Dad pulled the trigger on the factory special.

Finally we got to Step 3. The parental units told me I could pick out my very own bedset.
Mom urged me to get the Ocean or Construction vehicle theme but I instantly gravitated towards Spider-man. The big boys at school l0ve Spidey and well I want to be just like them.
So Dad and I convinced mom to buy the Spidey sheet set.

I decided to cut them a break so I walked right into my bedroom after the new bed was assembled and went right to sleep and have been doing the same every night since!

Wash.Rinse. Repeat. Okay so maybe those aren't the directions I followed exactly but I love to dump and fill using any containers or substance I can get my hands on so mama rigged up this little activity which I spent quite some time enjoying.

Mama started me off by getting 4 empty glass jars and a small pitcher of water which I then distributed among the jars. After I was satisfied with that task I moved on to my next objective.
Using a bit of food coloring and some plastic chopsticks I created the perfect hues in 3 of the jars choosing to leave the last one clear. Mama asked what I thought would happen if I mixed the water from any number of the jars and so I had to give it a try. Aha...yellow and blue makes green and of course the green stayed green but changed hues which prompted me to mix further until all the water in each of the jars were an identical hue. Finally, I decided I would put the lids back on the jars and do a little drummin' with my chopsticks...ahhhh....music to my ears. Clink. Clank. Ting. Bing. I am liking this mixology thing!

At school we are preparing for our transition to the new location in only a few short weeks.
We are going to have quite a menagerie of animals including dwarf bunnies. Two bunnies came to stay with us at school until the move to the "farm" and I am in bunny love! After reading a bit about the bunnies in our new bunny book at school I convinced the teach that I could feed and pet this little ball of fur. Hmmmm....cant wait to meet our next animal "Lucy" the pot-bellied pig!

Dude Nights! When Mama is away Daddy and I play! He is a real trooper and will do just about anything I ask. Here we are in the "boat" donning our "Captain hats" and you cant see it well in this photo but the string tied to the caterpillar is the "anchor" he made for our boat and the blue ball in back is the engine. He will even lay on the pad in my room until I fall asleep but as you can see last time he was the one to pass out first and he snores like a freight train.
Let's hope he can hang for "Dude Week" next week while Mama is in DC for work!

Last night Mama and I were playing with my "boat" and loading up all of my favorite animals for a ride. A few minutes later I covered my animals with a blanket (aka playsilk) and put my finger over my mouth to tell Mama...Shhhh...because the animals were sleeping. Mama asked why all the animals on the boat were sleeping and I replied because it is a no "awake" zone!

...a DIVER! I caught a glimpse of the Mens Olympic diving last night and was totally entranced. I watched intently as they climbed up the ladder and dove into the water and let out a squeal of delight and laughter as they plunged into the pool. I became extremely sad when Mama told me the diving was over and something called Beach Volleyball appeared. Since then I have been practicing my diving from the living room sofa ensuring that my toes are precisely on the edge before diving to the floor. So for this week anyways I want to be a diver BUT the parental units said they also compete in swimming and we all know I LoVe swimming so stay tuned!

Pokin' Pattin' Rollin' Kneadin'

Campout

I have been just dying to go camping but Mama said that she was dying from the heat and so we compromised! We pitched the tent in the backyard and waited until dusk to campout. I enjoyed hearing all the night noises of owls, crickets and the cow in the adjacent farm. The absolute best was getting to stay up later than usual to catch a glimpse of the stars which are plentiful out in our neck of the woods. Since we had the tent up we invited our friends to join us the next morning for a weiner roast, storytime in the tent and some solar-powered s'mores......delish!
While I enjoyed the campout I can't wait for another camping adventure this fall.

Mama and I were inspired by our friends to dump the pump and ride the bus! For our maiden voyage we decided to take the bus to visit Phil (Phils Icehouse) and Amy (Amy's Ice Cream) because what is better than sandwiches, corn dogs, sweet potato fries and a "Coconut Ice" after a long journey. I LOVED riding the bus and heard Mama remark that we would we need to do this more often. I cant wait for our next adventure!!

Summer Lovin'

I am finally catching up on my sleep after a very eventful trip to Cleveland, Ohio! We went to see family, attend a wedding and celebrate great-grandma's 85th birthday but we did all that and then some! I swam in Lake Eerie, played on the beach, went for ice cream, visited the Science and Nature Center, Hiked in the Metroparks, touched stingrays during a trip to the Cleveland Zoo, played with a host of second cousins all of whom are girls hence the photo of me in the pashmina!

One of the things Mama was most worried about in my transition to the new school was naptime! Since I had always slept in a pak n play or my bed she was worried that I wouldnt sleep on the mat in a room with 11 other children and then be a cranky mess come late afternoon. Well I proved her wrong! After a morning full of activities, on this particular day it was splash day, and a hearty lunch I most easily pass out on my mat with my blue buddy Dooley!

This past Friday was my last day at Casa Triche with Deda and my buddies! Over the past year and a half we have grown so much together and learned so much from one another and been truly loved by our teacher, Deda! Where else can you paint yourself blue, sing the hokey pokey in Espanol and swing in a hammock chair all in the same day? Although I am sad to be ending my stay Mama has promised that we will be staying in touch and playing with my buds soon!

Daredevil?!?!

After numerous attempts at swiping a scooter from several different big kids I convinced the folks that I was ready for a bit of a challenge. Armed with a totally rad helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads they set me loose with the beginner version of the Razr Scooter! Can you say awesome?!?!

This month marks the beginning of the season...boating season that is! Last year we missed out due to the lake being closed, low water levels, high bacteria levels, etc. but this year the lake is perfect for boating and swimming! I went out with Nunna, PapPap, Mama, Dada and Aunt Keke for out first voyage and I got a chance to drive the boat, swim and catch a few Zs while we toured around the northshore. I have already made many requests to go on the boat again! Mama and Dada said maybe we will plan to camp on the lakeshore soon so that Nunna and PapPap can just come pick us up for some all day boating.

I came to a brilliant realization recently, I LOVE to SING and have everyone around me singing too! I have learned every song and picked up on some cute verses pretty quickly. I think Mom and Dad are getting too tired of hearing the same old song and dance though because I heard them trying to makeup silly new songs this morning. Hola! I enjoyed a fantastico fiesta con mi amigos y amigas! We celebrated "Seis de Mayo" a holiday often observed when rain occurs on Cinco de Mayo! I wore my pancho and mama said she thought I was muy macho! It was my first encounter with a pinata and I especially enjoyed the watermelon aqua frescas! Big Boy Bed

On Saturday morning I climbed out of my crib and walked into the living room to make some coffee! After that incident Dad asked me if I thought we should make my bed into a "Big Boy Bed" and I replied, YES!! We decided to start slowly by just removing one side and then we put a fresh set of sheets and the quilt that Mama made months ago in anticipation of this day. I snuggled up with "George" and then was told to take my nap. Nap? Are ya kiddin me? I enjoyed my freedom and decided to forgo a nap on both Saturday and Sunday but easily settled in for the night! I decided to give the old folks a break and as of Monday I am officially napping and sleeping through the night in my BIG BOY BED!

We went camping again this past weekend and I must say that this trip was SO much better that the last! Not only because I didnt suffer any injuries but also because I was SO close to the playground that I could swing, swing and swing some more, hike along nicely shaded trails, cook farm fresh eggs in the morning and the best part of all was that I shared this outing with one of my best buddies!!!

Pencil, Powerdrill and a Project!

We went over to help Papa with the building of the greenhouse and I REALLY enjoyed helping on this project! I learned to measure, hold a pencil behind my ear and got to use a power drill!
I cant think of a more fantastic day!

Protest

Some sneaky individual snuck into my room and snapped this shot after I was sleeping soundly but I tell you I staged an awesome protest prior to naptime as you can see from the array of stuffed items flung on the floor. Some were in my crib but the others were in the organizer hanging from the ceiling that I pulled into my crib and then emptied. The protest may not seem very successful but trust me it pushed Mama's buttons!

I must say that although I enjoy a good meal what I enjoy the most is preparing it with Mama and Dada! Here I am seasoning the eggs and all I have to say is watch out Emeril!!! I watch very little TV but when I do sneak in a show my special request is "Good Eats" with Alton Brown on the Food Network. I think Mama is a bit amazed at how long I will sit focused on the show but I am committing to memory now and as Dada says my culinary education has only just begun.

The Big 2!!

So March turned out to be a very busy month and of course was very important because for those of you who don't know I turned 2!!! I celebrated the occasion with the family and Mama happily obliged by making me the marshmallow cake I requested. After our last camping trip she thought I might enjoy, Curious Geroge goes Camping, and she was correct so this cake combined all my favorite elements from the story. I must say that I really enjoyed the singing and the marshmallows on the cake the best.

Camping...a rocky first trip!

So Mom and Dad have been talking up this whole "camping" thing for a couple of weeks now and so when the forecast called for a beautiful weekend we packed up the gear and headed to nearby Inks Lake State Park. We arrived at the park and soon learned that there is a county wide burn ban. Mom and Dad were not happy to hear the news as they had visions of campfire roasted treats and tales but we decided we had come too far to turn around now.

We found a nice wooded campsite with water near the trails and decided to setup camp! I helped put up this cool thing called a tent and we hung out our lantern to stake claim to our site. Shortly after we decided to head out for a hike so with a few provisions and the pack so I could chill on Mom or Dad's back we were off. I enjoyed climbing and soon we made our way to the lakefront where I enjoyed some rock skipping and watching the "hawks" fly in the sky.

On the way back up the trail away from the water I found a super cool rock and decided to make a mad dash to throw it in the water. In my haste I tripped and slid down the rocky trail busting open my lip on a large rock below. Dad scooped me up quickly as I wailed like a wounded animal.
The site of all that blood made Dad nervous but after a moment we surveyed the damage and found that although there was a nasty gash and fat lip that I would probably survive. I think at this point Dad was about ready to call it quits!

As we calmly trekked back to camp I rested on Mamas back and demanded lunch as soon as we returned to camp. I am glad that Mom and Dad decided to stick it out because the rest of the trip was quite nice with some more hiking, cooking on our camp stove, sleeping in the tent and attempts to identify all the calls of the wild. So the score might be Nature-1 and Colton-0 but I dont think for a second that will stop us from Camping again!

How to get a private tour of your local fire Engine!

Earlier this week I got my very own private tour of our local fire engine and was simply thrilled!
Here is how it happened. Mom opened the door from the house and walked into the garage to put a few things in the refrigerator. I thought it would be funny to slam the door closed really fast and then I turned that shiny knob at the top. I was inside and Mommy was outside but then I decided I wanted to go outside too but Mommy wouldn't let me. I could hear her talking through the door and she kept saying, "Colton turn the deadbolt, the one on top!"

I started to get really mad because I wanted to go outside and play but couldn't get the door open. Then it suddenly got very quiet and I heard a tapping noise on my bedroom window. I ran into my room and could see Mommy taking the screen off the window. Suddenly 2 big men in blue appeared behind her and asked Mommy what she was doing. I looked out the window and could see a big red fire engine pull in front of our house and behind it was a fire chief truck following closely. Then there were 2 blue men, some red and yellow men and Mommy.

I could hear one of the men in blue say they were calling Daddy. Yay, Daddy had left earlier for work and I missed him so I hoped he came home soon. I heard some firemen at the door I had locked and they were saying they were going to break it down. I thought that would be pretty cool but Mommy spoiled all the fun by stopping them.

I was looking out the window and yelled HONDA! It was my Daddy and he jumped out of the car and ran as fast as he could inside the house to get me. Daddy had to go back to work but not before I got a BIG hug. Finally the red and yellow men invited me inside the Fire Engine! There were so many buttons, a helmet, boots and then I got to press a button that made all these lights flash on top of the truck. I wanted to play on the truck more but Mommy said we had to go to Home Depot to get some keys copied.

All in all I have to say that it was a pretty great morning!

Say What?!?!

People are beginning to say that I am quite the lil' talker. For the most part everyone understands what I am saying but there are those occasions like the one in the video where I just want to say, "Hey peeps, are you listening to the words that are coming out of my mouth? I mean I couldn't be any clearer, could I?"

Mama says she doesnt know if it is a good thing that most of my favorite words are food related but I think it is fantastic. I mean I can tell them exactly what I want to eat and when I want it. Like oatmeal, sammich, pizza, avocado, pasta, cracker, trail mix, smoothie, blueberries, yogurt...anyways, I digress so I will leave it at that. Man all this talk about food is making me hungry.

So for Xmas I received this funny little card with weird writing on it. Mama told me it was a special "Museum Pass" that would guarantee a year of fun. So this last week I gathered up some friends to check this place out. I had a blast and can't wait to go back again.

The Table that Dad Built

I got a wooden train set for Xmas, YAY! Dada and I tried to put it together on the floor but you couldn't really get maximum locomotive speed on the carpet. Dada decided to take on making a train table just for me. We went to Home Depot and shopped for wood and then I layed down for a nap.

When I woke up there was this table that Dad built and it is SO awesome. I did some quality control by standing and jumping on it but I think that made Mama a bit nervous...heehee. I spend a little time each day with my trains and so I wanted to send a shout out to you Dada, I love ya man!

I'm Back!!!

I'm Back, YAY! I am sure you have all missed hearing about my adventures, milestones and those other stats that my mom used to post on that baby site. Well I ain't a baby anymore so I thought I would check out this "blogging" thing that all my buds have been telling me about.

Oops, mama just woke up better run before she finds me on the computer but I will be back soon to update.
